Leib-Bаtaillon #8384221
Description
𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 𝐆𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 When the Brunswick Ducal Corps was reformed in 1815, the line and light battalions were outfitted with new shakos. The Life Guard Battalion, however, kept their shako and continued to sport the infamous Brunswick Skull. At Quatre 3ras, the Life Guard fought valiantly, exchanging volleys of musket fire with the French. The Brunswickers were forced back under the murderous fire of French canister, which eventually broke the line battalions. The Life Guard, in contrast, did not break. While the Duke of Brunswick was rallying and reforming his troops, tragedy struck, and he was shot through the stomach. The soldiers of the Life Guard rescued him, using their muskets as a makeshift stretcher, and escorted him to the rear. Despite this loss, they held firm a few days later at Waterloo, unwavering against Ney's cavalry charge
