Description
𝟐. 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 Expanded in 1815 like all other wartime battalions, the 2. performed many of the same actions as other line battalions. They held at Quatre 3ras, but like the 1. was forced back under heavy French canister fire. At Waterloo a few days later, when Brunswick infantry was required to fill the gap the British Guard had left, the 2. bore the brunt of Ney's Cavalry charge in a square formation. After the attack had lost a bit of intensity, fresh British line units were summoned to relieve them. The 2. fell back a few hundred yards, but due to the casualties sustained they were forced to downsize from a square into a triangle.
