Description
The 45th (Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot saw extensive service in the Caribbean and North America during the American Revolutionary War, where disease and climate often proved as deadly as combat. In 1782, it received its county designation as the Nottinghamshire Regiment, strengthening its recruiting ties at home. By the turn of the 19th century, the regiment was engaged in Britain’s wars against France, including deployments to the West Indies and the early stages of the Napoleonic Wars. By 1809, the 45th had established a reputation as a steady and experienced line regiment, shaped by decades of global service across Europe and the wider British Empire.
