Description
The Grand Duchy of Hessen-Darmstadt was formed in 1806 under the name of the Grand Duchy of Hessen. They later changed their name to Hessen-Darmstadt to avoid confusion with the electorate of Hessen (Hessen-Kassel). In 1866 when the Seven weeks war began they sided with Austria and committed 20,000 soldiers to the fight. and even in some battles commanded.
