It oversees matters of internal and external security, counterintelligence, and the protection of national interests against hostile activities. The Department also administers citizenship and nationality affairs, ensuring that the acquisition, maintenance, and revocation of citizenship are conducted in accordance with the laws of the Realm. Through its security, intelligence, and administrative functions, the Department works to preserve public order, protect the constitutional foundations of the state, and ensure the safety and integrity of the nation.
