COHORTES URBANAE ∎▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬∎ The Urban Cohort is a specialized unit of the Roman Imperial army, primarily responsible for maintaining law and order within the city of Rome. Established by Emperor Augustus, the Urban Cohort was composed of citizens from Rome and Italy and served as the city's police force, responsible for patrolling the streets, apprehending criminals, and responding to public disturbances. The Urban Cohort also played a significant role in protecting the city from external threats, serving as a supplementary force to the Praetorian Guard in times of crisis. In addition to their military duties, the Urban Cohort was also involved in public works and construction projects within the city, contributing to the development and maintenance of Rome's infrastructure.
