Description
The Ministry of the Interior is the central administrative authority responsible for the preservation of public order, internal security, and the implementation of state policy within the German Democratic Republic. Acting under the direction of the Socialist Unity Party (SED) and the General Secretary, the MdI oversees all matters pertaining to civil administration, border regulation, population management, and the coordination of internal affairs.
