Description
The Workers Party of Chartreuse is a big tent left-wing political party with major communist, socialist, and anarchist factions. The party was originally founded in 1871 as the Communist Party of Chartreuse, following the establishment of the Paris Commune. Shortly after its founding, the Prince moved swiftly to ban the party from running in elections, declaring it illegal. The Workers Party was founded just two years later as a way for communist candidates to legally run in elections. After the monarchy was abolished, the Workers Party publicly declared their commitment to communism and declared themselves the successor to the original Communist Party.
