𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐎𝐒 ───────────── On the eastern coast of Rhodes stands Lindos, the most outward-facing of the three poleis, where sea routes and sacred heights define its identity. Before unity, it was a maritime and religious center shaped by sailors, merchants, and priestly families. Its harbor connected Rhodes to Asia and the wider Aegean, while its acropolis, crowned by the sanctuary of Athena Lindia, anchored civic life in ritual and tradition. Lindos looked beyond the island more than inward, drawing wealth and influence from trade and navigation. Its strength lay in its connections, making it a bridge between Rhodes and the broader Greek world. When the pressures of the late 5th century BCE led Rhodes toward synoikismos, Lindos entered the emerging federation as its most cosmopolitan element—contributing maritime expertise, sacred prestige, and external ties. From acropolis and harbor alike, Lindos helped shape the unity of Rhodos, where three distinct cities were bound.
