Description
The Surface Fleet Gives the Royal Navy versatility, global presence and resilience. The warships of the fleet provide a credible fighting force across the full spectrum of military operations from maritime security to disaster relief, allowing the Royal Navy to protect our nation's interests. The Surface Fleet has been strengthened with the addition of two new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers: the HMS Queen Elizabeth, which was accepted into the fleet in 2017, and the HMS Prince of Wales, which will enter active service in 2020. These formidable warships are the largest ever constructed for the Royal Navy. Together, they will substantially increase our reach, acting both as a powerful symbol of Britain’s international influence and as a deterrent to those who would do us harm.
