Description
"The Sons of the Earth" The Perioikoi were the free, non-citizen inhabitants of Sparta’s surrounding territories, bound to serve the state in both war and trade. While not full Spartiate warriors, they formed a vital auxiliary force in the Spartan army—craftsmen, sailors, merchants, and hoplites who upheld the backbone of Sparta’s economy and military logistics. Trained in the phalanx and disciplined in Spartan tactics, the Perioikoi fought to protect the land they called home, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with citizen soldiers when the call to arms was sounded.
