This is a group for Texans or people who wish they were one. Texas was first colonized in the 1600's by French and Spanish settlers. It was primarily controlled by Spain until the Mexican fight for independence. After the Mexicans won independence from Spain it was under Mexico's rule. Then in April 1836, Texas won its own independence from Mexican rule and became the Republic of Texas from March 1836 to February 1846 when it joined the United States as the 28th state in the union. In 1861 Texas joined 6 other southern states and seceded from the Union to be the 7th state to join the Confederate States of America until 1865 when the Civil War ended. Texas has been the birthplace of 3 presidents (as of July 2016) and has been a huge powerhouse for the U.S. since its statehood.
