Spared from direct nuclear strikes during the Great War, the city survived largely intact and transformed into the wastes capital of criminal activities, mafia, and militia work. While primarily "governed" and "protected" by Mr. Bishop and the Bishop Family, the largest criminal family in town; there are also other families grasping at the straws of criminal totalitarianism of the city. Though largely independent and unaligned, the New California Republic does contain some presence via patrols and a singular garrison. The city itself garners much attraction and attention to itself through its diverse activities in comparison to the wastes, making it one of the most visited hotspots in the American Southwest- though second to New Vegas.
