ℑ𝔫𝔣𝔬: The Field Directorate of Aviation and Aeronautics ( as in pre-1917 Russian: Полевое Управленіе Авіацій й Воздухоплаванія ) was an military command body under the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Imperial Army and Navy that was founded in 1914 during World War 1. It was responsible for the formation, reorganization, movement, mobilization and demobilization of aeronautical and aviation units and their combat training, supply of technical means and the correct use of aviation and aeronautical means in battle. The Field Directorate of Aviation and Aeronautics also was the head of aviation schools, aviation workshops and warehouses. The squadron of “aerial ships” that were Ilya Muromets bombers was also under subordination of it and at the direct disposal of the Imperial Russian high command.
