𝐸𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑜 𝑑'𝐼𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑎 / 𝑉𝑎𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑒 𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑖𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑎 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐎; The Kingdom of Italy was formed in March of 1805 when Napoléon Bonaparte declared himself the King of Italy, however, in all cases, the Kingdom only exercised control over the northern part of the Italian peninsula. In his place to run the Kingdom, he left his faithful adopted son, Eugène Beauharnais, to rule as Viceroy. The Army of Italy under Eugène performed exceptionally during the 1805 and 1809 campaigns and eventually took part in the Russian Campaign of 1812 as part of Napoléon's 4th Corps with many faithful young men and veterans serving in its ranks during this tenure.
