Description
O Ducado de Viseu foi um dos mais prestigiados títulos da nobreza portuguesa, criado em 1415 pelo rei D. João I e inicialmente concedido ao Infante D. Henrique, o Navegador. Posteriormente, esteve ligado a outros príncipes da Casa de Avis, sendo frequentemente associado também ao Ducado de Beja. A Casa Ducal de Viseu desempenhou papel importante na política do reino durante a Idade Média e o Renascimento, fornecendo herdeiros e consortes à Coroa. Embora sem jurisdição territorial real sobre a cidade, o título simbolizava honra, prestígio e proximidade à família real.
