Grenadier Guards & Wellington Barracks The Grenadier Guards are one of the oldest and most prestigious regiments of the British Army, tracing their origins back to 1656 during the reign of King Charles II. As the senior regiment of the Foot Guards, the Grenadier Guards have a long history of military service, ceremonial duties, and protecting the Sovereign. Wellington Barracks, located near Buckingham Palace in London, has been closely associated with the Foot Guards for generations. Established in the 19th century and named after the Duke of Wellington, the barracks became an important home for soldiers carrying out ceremonial and operational duties in London. Today, Wellington Barracks remains strongly connected with the Household Division and the famous ceremonial traditions of the British Army. Soldiers based there take part in duties such as Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace, state occasions, royal ceremonies, and other important events.
