Description

The wind moans hollow through the leafless trees, And all the world lies still beneath the freeze. Grey skies drip sorrow onto frozen ground, Where silence spreads, unbroken and profound. The river sleeps beneath its icy veil, Its whispered songs of summer now grown pale. No birdsong pierces the brittle, frozen air, No warmth or laughter lingers anywhere. I walk alone where shadows claim the snow, Each step a memory of light I used to know. The hearth once bright now dies without a flame, And even the sun seems weary of its name. Time creeps slowly through the shivering night, A fragile candle swallowed by the blight. Winter drags its shadow across my heart, And leaves me with the dark, alone, apart.
