- "Fear Not Death; Fear Dishonor" ------------------------------------------------------- Situated on the right flank of the Union lines at Little Round Top, the undermanned regiment, numbering only 263, held their ground against 4th and 5th Texas Infantry. The CO, Norval [We lch], ordered a retreat. Himself and 25 men fell back. The rest decided to hold their ground. 3rd Brigade's CO, Strong Vincent, would be mortally wounded fighting there. ------------------------------------------------------- Raised between July and September of 1861 as an all volunteer regiment, the 16th Michigan Volunteer Infantry was organized to serve as an Independent Regiment, under the command of T.B.W. [Stock ton]. On September 16th, 1861, the regiment marched to participate in the winter defense of Washington D.C. 16th Michigan Volunteer Infantry would fight at several key battles, including the battles of Second Bull Run, [Anti etam], andn Gettysburg before being disbanded on July 8th, 1865.
