Description
Born out of the experimental airmobile trials at Fort Benning on March 19, 1964, the 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion revolutionized frontline deployment. Following a crucial tactical testing phase, the unit was officially redesignated on July 1, 1965. Now deployed to the African theater, the "Winged Warriors" operate as the tip of the spear for aviation logistics, supply drops, and under-fire combat extractions.
