Description
*A Conducted Energy Device (CED), most commonly known by the Taser, is a less-lethal tactical option used by Police Constables to temporarily incapacitate a subject through an electrical current. It is designed to bridge the gap between physical restraint and more lethal options, such as firearms, allowing officers to resolve dangerous situations safely and with a reduced risk of serious injury. The device works by activating the nerves under the skin, causing involuntary muscle contractions that override a subject's ability to move or attack. In the majority of police encounters, the mere presence of the CED—such as drawing the device or using the "red dot" laser sight—acts as a powerful deterrent that de-escalates a situation without any electrical discharge being necessary.
