[ What is a shmup? ] A 'shmup' is shorthand for 'shoot 'em up', a genre of video game that can be traced back nearly as far back as the arcades go. They vary in play style, but typically, you control a space ship of some kind, from an overhead view, shooting enemies as they come down towards you. You may have even played a shmup before without knowing, such as Space Invaders, Galaga, or 1942. [ How can I play shmups? ] This can be a bit tricky, as many of the greatest are either relegated to arcade machines, or old expensive hardware (such as a Sega Saturn). However, many great titles exist on the Nintendo Switch, such as Ikaruga. I'd recommend starting there, as it's relatively easy to work with. [ Any good developers? ] Toaplan, Cave, Raizing, Treasure, Taito, Konami, Capcom, Compile, Irem, Technosoft, Psikyo... just to name a few. [ Afterword ] I'll be developing shmups here on ROBLOX for everyone to play, in my free time. I do hope you enjoy your time here!
