Description
One of the first American units to adopt the hussar style uniform was the Boston Hussars of the Massachusetts Militia. Equipped and organized in 1810 by Josiah Quincy, the unit adopted a green jacket embroidered with gold and a crimson pelisse trimmed with black fur. The Boston Hussars were on duty in Massachusetts during the war of 1812. During July in 1816, the hussars would receive and escort President James Monroe at Boston Neck.
