Founded in 1650 during the English Civil War, the Regiment earned its name when in 1660 it crossed the River Tweed at the town of Coldstream to march south into England, whereafter it successfully took part in the restoration of the Monarchy and were subsequently awarded by King Charles II with the Order of the Garter which we use to this day to mark our loyalty to the Crown. We represent the oldest and most distinguished tradition in all of British military history, and it is to us that Britain's greatest victories are owed, which is why we always stand at the front of formations and use the motto Nulli Secundus, second to none.
