DEFUNCT HISTORY In mid-January of 1992, violent riots and protests filled the City of Newton after a corrupt Government ordered the mass eviction of hundreds of homeowners throughout the city. In the early hours of the violence, the State Police were deployed to keep law and order in the city but failed. The protest managed to last all of three days. On the second day, the National Guard had been deployed to contain the situation and re-capture the once peaceful city. After the rioters dispersed and the protesters dropped their signs, the newly appointed State Governor knew that change was required. Precisely fourteen days after the violence had erupted, the Newton Police Department was established. MISSION STATEMENT Since the implementation of the Department in Late January 1992, the department’s sole dedication is focused on the Citizens of Newton, and ensuring each Citizen is safe. They work tireless hours to ensure that law and order is maintained. We work for a safer tomorrow.
