The Irish volunteer army #9335369
OtherENIrish history1916 Easter RisingIrish independence
Description
In April, 1916, Irish rebels took multiple key points throughout Dublin city and other small areas across the island, claiming the "Irish Republic" and the "Proclamation of Irish Independence" but surrendered to British forces a week later. This small rebellion inspired the Irish people the idea of Sovereign rule, who then in 1919 began another uprising against the British. The Anglo-Irish war lasted 3 years until Britain and Ireland signed a truce ending the war in 1921 bringing along the "Irish Free State" which became a part of the British commonwealth until 1949 (Later gaining full independence and becoming "The Republic of Ireland.") yet 6 of the 32 counties in Ireland (all 6 being within Ulster, a province with 9 counties in total) would remain a part of the UK where violence would ensue into the present day. "Nothing can stop the march of the Irish Volunteers! Dia a shábháil Éire!" Founded: January 26th, 2021
