Description
After Australia declared independence from the British Empire in 1920, it did not have a proper defence force, and each state within Australia essentially had its own militia. The militias were united in 1923. The Corps of Military Police was formed in 1925, as a means of enforcing martial law on her newly acquired territories, as well to keep soldiers in check. Since 1934, the CMP has also played a part in the nation's homeland security, working with the then-new Australian Federal Coast Guard, preventing illegal landings on Australia's western and northern shores. The CMP would partake in all conflicts Australia found itself in, from the jungles of Indonesia, to the sands of Egypt, to the rubble of Baghdad. As of 2025, the AFACMP has 6 major divisions with a total of 19 battalions, all spread out across her vast territory.
