Jarldom of Sønderjylland - “Milli krúnu ok landamæra stöndum vér.” _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Jarldom of Sønderjylland, established in the early 11th–12th century, was a powerful noble territory in southern Denmark, serving as a crucial border region between the Danish kingdom and the Holy Roman Empire. Governed by a jarl—often a royal son or brother—it held both military and political importance, protecting Denmark's southern frontier. In 1232, it was elevated to the Duchy of Schleswig, gaining greater autonomy and influence.
