O Ducado de Aveiro foi criado em 1535 pelo rei D. João III de Portugal e concedido a D. João de Lencastre, membro da Casa de Avis. Situado na região de Aveiro, o título tornou-se símbolo de prestígio, riqueza e influência da nobreza portuguesa, ligado a famílias próximas à Coroa. A Casa Ducal de Aveiro teve papel relevante na política, nas relações dinásticas e no fortalecimento das tradições nobiliárquicas do reino, mantendo prestígio mesmo sem conferir autoridade territorial plena sobre a região.
