On 1 January 2001, the former police services in Belgium, i.e. the Judicial Police in the Public Prosecutor's Offices, the Local Police and the Rijkswacht, were integrated and structured at two levels. Since that moment, the federal police and the local police form the Belgian police, which together ensure the integrated police care. The federal police, throughout the whole territory of the State, performs specialised and supralocal tasks of administrative and judicial police, as well as supporting tasks of local police and police authorities, according to the principles of subsidiarity and speciality.
