Description
The County of Riverwood was established in 1817 as one of the early inland counties of the State of Cascadia. Formed around the fertile valleys of the Upper Riverwood Basin, the county grew quickly as farming settlements, timber camps, and small trading posts developed along its waterways. Through the late 19th century, Riverwood became a regional hub for forestry and milling, supported by the expansion of rail lines that connected its rural towns to Cascade Falls and other major markets. Steady population growth in the 20th century prompted the development of new municipalities, public institutions, and conservation areas throughout the county. Today, the County of Riverwood is known for its mix of forested highlands, agricultural communities, and small towns, serving as an important cultural and economic region within the State of Cascadia.
