Description
The Kayı tribe, a branch of the Oghuz Turks, migrated from Central Asia to Anatolia in the 13th century. Initially led by Ertuğrul, they settled near Söğüt under the Seljuk Sultanate. His son, Osman I, took over around 1280 and capitalized on the declining Seljuk and Byzantine powers. He united various Turkic tribes and expanded his territory through strategic warfare and alliances. In 1299, Osman declared independence, founding the early Ottoman Empire also known as The Kayi State. His leadership transformed the Kayı Tribe from a small nomadic group into a burgeoning state, laying the foundation for an empire that would span three continents for centuries.
