[LFC] Philippine Republican Army #976006857
Description
The Philippine Republican Army, or Ejército Republicano Filipino, served as the official military of the First Philippine Republic under Emilio Aguinaldo. Formed from revolutionary militias that fought Spain, it was reorganized in 1898 into a conventional force modeled on Spanish and European armies. Though numbering tens of thousands, many soldiers were poorly equipped and trained, relying on captured or outdated weapons. The army fought in key battles of the Philippine–American War, including the defense of Caloocan and campaigns across Luzon and the Visayas. By late 1899, unable to match American firepower and discipline, many units shifted to guerrilla tactics under local commanders. While ultimately defeated, the army became a symbol of Filipino determination for independence and laid foundations for future nationalist struggles.
