Description
GIGN (Groupe d'intervention de la Gendarmerie nationale) is France's elite tactical police unit, part of the National Gendarmerie, specializing in counterterrorism, hostage rescue, protecting dignitaries and critical sites, and combating organized crime, renowned globally for its high-stakes operations and rigorous training. Formed in 1974 after the Munich massacre, they are similar in function to the FBI HRT, serving as France's primary force for critical security threats with a motto of "Commitment to life" (S'engager pour la vie).
