Description
The New Haven County Fire Marshals Office was established in June of 1972 as a county-funded venture to provide the residents of the County of New Haven with fire prevention, investigation, and code enforcement services in conjunction with the New Haven County Fire Department. Before the New Haven County Fire Marshals Office, there had been no dedicated agency to oversee fire safety standards and investigations throughout the County of New Haven, and local fire departments had to rely on state resources to conduct major fire investigations and inspections. The original office had been located in the Town of Mersea but was relocated after the acquisition of the Lander City Fire Safety Bureau in December of 1999, when the County of Clark had forfeited county properties to the County of New Haven.
