Description

Back in 1971, the National Passenger Rail Corp., or Amtrak was formed to take over all passenger operations in the US. One month later on June 1, 1971, a completely seperate company was spunoff that was non-government or Amtrak owned and it was called AMRoad. AMRoad comprised of Amtrak's unwanted interity train routes and there was only one. The Los Angeles to Chicago, Silver Streak. From 1971 to 1976, this new company struggled to stay in the black. Most of this struggle was caused by the lack of service, which was tri-weekly, the lack of equipment which consisted of CP Rail FP7s and an ex-Canadian car set (which was eight cars) and the major lack of patronage to the train (which was averaging ten passengers per trip). But all was going to change in ##### In ##### ### of the major film companies asked Amtrak if they could loan equipment for a new film but after reading the script, Amtrak mangagement quickly said no. So the film company's next option was to turn to AMRoad
