Description
In July of 1814, General Winfield Scott lead his brigade consisting of the 11th and other regiments into battle at Chippewa against a well-seasoned British and Canadian force. Due to the nature of the regiment's grey uniforms, the British figured they were militiamen and thought they were going to claim an easy victory. After seeing General Scott's well-disciplined soldiers take the brunt of British musket fire and artillery, the British officers are said to exclaimed, "Those are not militia, those are Regulars, By God!". The 6th would soon drive the British from the battlefield, leaving their mark and displaying the American fighting spirit. The 11th would go on to partake in many more campaigns thought-out the war.
