Description

Paper lanterns originated in China during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25–220 AD). Crafted from bamboo frames covered in paper or silk, they initially served to protect candle flames from the wind. Buddhist monks soon adopted them for religious rituals, which eventually evolved into the widespread, culturally significant festivals celebrated globally today.
