The Twentieth Special Forces Group is the second of the two Army National Guard Special Forces groups, headquartered in Birmingham and belonging to the Alabama National Guard. Its units are spread across Alabama, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Indiana, Maryland, Florida and Kentucky. It covers thirty-two countries under Southern Command: Latin America below Mexico, the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico and the southwestern Atlantic. Since it was organised on the first of May, nineteen sixty-one it has served in the Gulf War, in northern Iraq under Operation Provide Comfort, in Haiti, and across Afghanistan and Iraq from two thousand and two onward.
