V Corps organized in France in July 1918 with the American Expeditionary Forces; its record at St. Mihiel and in the Meuse-Argonne offensive earned it the nickname Victory Corps. Its insignia, a white-outlined pentagon in flag blue divided into five wedges, marks the corps' number in its own blue and white. In World War II, V Corps assaulted Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944, fought the Battle of the Bulge, and reached the Red Army at Torgau in May 1945. It commanded divisions in West Germany through the Cold War, inactivating at Wiesbaden in 2013. Reactivated in 2020 at Fort Knox, Kentucky, it now forward-stations at Camp Kosciuszko, Poland, the Army's forward-postured corps on NATO's eastern flank.
