The Reconquista was a really long series of wars in medieval Spain and Portugal that lasted almost 800 years (from 711 to 1492). Who was fighting? 🛡️ The Christian kingdoms in the north (like Castile, Aragon, and León). ☪️ The Muslim kingdoms in the south. What happened: In 711, Muslim armies took over most of the Iberian Peninsula (that’s Spain and Portugal). Over time, the Christian kingdoms worked together to reclaim (or “reconquer”) the land — that’s why it’s called the Reconquista. The battles went on for centuries — towns, castles, and kingdoms changed sides many times!
