- "Non Gradum Retro!" / "Don't Step Back! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Late into the afternoon of July 2nd, Colonel [J. Chamber lain] led the 20th Maine Infantry Regiment in one of the most famous counter attacks in history. He led his men in a desperate bayonet charge against an advancing force at Little Round Top. His actions changed the tide in the Battle of Gettysburg, and led to a Union victory. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The 20th Maine Infantry Regiment was raised on August 29th, 1862, as a part of 3rd Brigade, First Division, Corps V where it would serve the entirety of the war until being disbanded on July 16th, 1865. The Regiment would famously engage at Gettysburg, gaining a reputation from their famous bayonet charge on Little Round Top. As well as Gettysburg, the 20th Maine Infantry engaged in the Battle of Fredericksburg and the deadliest battle in American history, the Battle of [Anti etam].
