The family rose to prominence during the Restoration period, when Sir Edmund Blythe, a prosperous merchant and staunch royalist, was elevated to the peerage by King Charles II in 1679. His loyalty and financial support to the Crown earned him the title of Viscount Ardmore.. Over the following generations, the Blythes expanded their influence through shrewd political alliances and advantageous maxxiages. In the early 19th century, the Blythe family merged with the distinguished Ford family of Hampshire.
