Description
Kingdom of Mercia was one of the three notable Anglic Kingdoms founded after Sub-Roman Britain and was settled in an era called the Heptarchy. It was centred around the River Trent and its tributaries, in a region now known as the Midlands of England. At the end of the 9th century, following the invasions of the Vikings and their Great Heathen Army, Danelaw absorbed much of the former Mercian territory.
