𝐓𝐀𝐗𝐈𝐒 𝐄𝐔𝐗𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐃𝐎𝐍 « 𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒘𝒐 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒔 » Euxenos, elder captain of the first Phocaean fleet, did not come to Gaul as a supplicant. He came bearing iron, wine, and the favour of gods the Segobriges had never known, and King Nannos received him not as a stranger to be tolerated but as a power to be courted. When the king's daughter passed over a hall full of Gallic princes to set the ceremonial cup before Euxenos's son, Protis, the priests declared it no accident but the will of the gods themselves. Massalia itself was the dowry. No house in Massalia commands more than the Euxenidai, and none has ever needed to raise a blade to prove it.
