45TH US INFANTRY DIVISION "THE THUNDERBIRDS" ➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵ The 45th Infantry Division was one of the first National Guard units activated in World War II in 1941. They took part in intense fighting during the invasion of Sicily and the attack on Salerno in the 1943 Italian Campaign. Slowly advancing through Italy, they fought to the capture of Rome. Following the landing in France, they fought into Germany until the end of the War in Europe. Based out of Oklahoma, the unit included a large number of American Indians who fought bravely for their nation, the United States of America. ➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵
