Description
𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬 The Classis Misenensis, based primarily in the eastern Mediterranean, recruited its crews especially from Egypt. Since no naval threat loomed in the region, most sailors had little to do. Some were stationed in Rome itself, first in the Praetorian barracks but later moved to their own quarters near the Colosseum, the Castra Misenatium. There they staged sea battles in the arena and operated equipment like the massive shade-cloth.
