They were also tasked with the protection of the Suebian lands, and high ranking tribesmen - these were often chosen from the bravest, and most talented young men of the Suebian tribes, as well as the oldest, most grizzled veterans of the Suebian warband. During wartime, they were the most elite forces that the Suebi mustered, and were usually kept in reserve.
