Description

The Mayflower Bureau of Investigation, originally the Bureau of Law Enforcement, was founded in 1931 after Attorney General Bonaparte employed a small staff of thirty investigators to tackle high-stakes cases directly under the Justice Department's auspices. The Bureau of Law Enforcement was shuttered in 1941, when the Mayflower State Police absorbed the majority of its duties. Following the 1992 Lander Riots, public outcry occurred at the failure of state and county investigative agencies to properly prosecute the offenders. Acting Attorney General Al Berkley, who took over after the resignation of the Attorney General, issued an interim order to move the responsibilities of investigation from the Mayflower State Police back to the Department of Justice. In 1993, the State Senate codified the Mayflower Investigations Act, putting the MBI firmly back with the DOJ. Today, the Mayflower Bureau of Investigation investigates public corruption, misconduct, and other high-profile cases.
