Description

Marine Aviation Forces are the air component of the U.S. Marine Corps, providing air support for ground operations, and are organized as the Aviation Combat Element of a Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF). They are responsible for six functions: assault support, antiair warfare, close air support, electronic warfare, control of aircraft and missiles, and aerial reconnaissance. Marine aviation is composed of several active and reserve aircraft wings, which are further subdivided into squadrons of various aircraft, including fixed-wing, tiltrotor, and helicopters.
